AICIP hosts a GIT based code repository, which is a popular open source, distributed version control system. It is generally thought to be more flexible and efficient than Subversion, but it does have a moderate learning curve. However, for daily common use cases, it won't be too difficult to get it started. See [[Git Usage]] for more information.

AICIP as a group are hosting its project sources on bitbucket. You are encourage to learn and make use of git to manage your project code.

If you want to use Git to manage your project or code, you need to do the following:

  • Generate a public key (if you don't have one already) and email it to hqi@utk.edu
 ssh-keygen -t rsa

This command will generate two files under $HOME/.ssh - id_rsa the private key and id_rsa.pub the public key. It is the public key "id_rsa.pub" that is needed.

  • Indicate which repository you want to access or if this is new repository, you need to give it a brief but informative short name.

That is all from user's end. Once you have the confirmation that the repo is ready to use, you can proceed to Git Usage for further instructions on how to get it started.
