To get it started on either http://github.com or http://bitbucket.org and save a lot of typing of password, you should get started by generating a public and private key pair:

Public/Private Key Pair

ssh-keygen -t rsa

This command will generate two files under $HOME/.ssh - id_rsa the private key and id_rsa.pub the public key. It is the public key "id_rsa.pub" that is needed by aforementioned web site. That is all from user's end.
